ACDA 2018

How to audition a work for presentation at the ACDA Northwest Region Conference

Applications due November 21 by midnight. But that doesn’t mean you need to wait until then…

The University of Utah has been an active participant in the American College Dance Association for over 35 years. The American College Dance Association’s primary focus is to support and promote the wealth of talent and creativity that is prominent throughout college and university dance programs. ACDA’s sponsorship of regional conferences and the national dance festival provides a venue for students and faculty to engage in four days of performances, workshops, panels, and master classes taught by instructors from around the region and country. The conferences also provide the unique opportunity for students and faculty to have their dance works adjudicated by a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals in an open and constructive forum.

The University is allowed to send three dance works and one Screen Dance work* for presentation at the ACDA Northwest Region Conference. Two of these dance works will be for adjudication with a 12:00 minute maximum time limit, and one dance for performance in the Informal (non-adjudicated) Concert with a maximum time limit of 8:00 minutes.

To be eligible for consideration, all cast members must be current students this semester and/or next semester. The choreographer may be a student, faculty member, or guest artist (of the two dances selected for adjudication, at least one must be a student choreographed work).

The selection process has changed this year and all works will need to be submitted for consideration via video submission. We realize that some works submitted may be excerpts from longer works. If this is the case, please make a “rough cut” video of the work to submit – keeping in mind the 12 and 8-minute time limits. This can be a rehearsal or performance video and need not be ‘perfect.’ Please upload your video to Vimeo, YouTube, or some other platform that will allow all of the selection committee members the opportunity to see the work prior to voting.

The Selection Committee will be comprised of students and faculty members selected by the Officers of the School of Dance ACDA Club. Those students and faculty submitting a work for consideration will not participate in the selection process.

If you are interested in submitting a work for review, please complete the attached ‘fillable’ pdf document (open in Acrobat) and email it to Brent Schneider, the Club Faculty Advisor at
