Jennifer Weber

Jennifer Weber is an active performer, choreographer, teacher and dance educator. With over 20 years of work in the dance field, Jennifer believes in educating communities about dance, as well educating dancers about the unique qualities of their art form. She is continually seeking new ways to communicate through dance.

Jennifer is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, and began her dance training at Ballet Omaha under the direction of Robin Welch and Robert Vickery. She has performed internationally at the Shizuoka Ballet Festival in Japan. She joined the ranks of Omaha Theater Company’s professional company and danced with them for three seasons while simultaneously completing her BA in mathematics, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Jennifer danced many lead roles and was featured in many works in Omaha and with Ballet Quad Cities.She danced with Ballet Quad Cities for six seasons. Jennifer was co-director of Ballet Quad Cities II, the youth performing group, as well as a teacher of ballet and pointe for Ballet Quad Cities School of Dance. She was instrumental in developing community outreach; such as the after school program Dance For Life.

She received her MFA in Dance with an emphasis in choreography from the University of Iowa where she performed, choreographed, and taught. At Iowa she explored the individual in the dancer and the power of collaborative work. Jennifer then danced with Ballet Nebraska and performed across the country as a freelance artist. In 2011, Jennifer choreographed her own full-length version of The Nutcracker for Rockford Dance Company. She has expanded her choreographic voice by creating narratives of Peter Pan, The Hunting of the Snark, Mother Goose and Friends and Thumbelina among other works. She works to invigorate her dancers with ownership and tries to cultivate the dancer as an individual. Her works have been choreographed on professionals, pre-professionals, community members without formal training, and young dancers.

Jennifer has been on faculty at the University of Iowa, University of Iowa Youth Ballet, Burklyn Ballet Theater as the Intermediate Director, Rockford Dance Company, The Family Museum in Bettendorf, IA, Academy of Performing Arts, Ballet Quad Citites, City Center School of the Arts, and Omaha Theater Company for Young People. She is proficient in a number of disciplines and works to foster thoughtful participation, inquiry, analysis, synthesis with ownership, and an ability to identify a framework.

Jennifer has twice traveled to Les Ceyes, Haiti, to work with Haitian orphans conducting movement research using movement exploration as a tool for building agency and to communicate through language barriers. Focusing on developing creative problem solving skills via movement to assist in the development of personal survival skills.
