Sam Stone

MFA Candidate

Sam Stone is a dance performance artist, teacher, community organizer, and creator. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Modern dance, she spent the majority of her professional career in the San Francisco Bay Area where she was responsible for directing and conceiving six full-length evening productions, dozens of shorter pieces, and more than 50 children’s dance works. Outside of her own choreography, Sam has worked with Kathleen Hermesdorf, Bianca Cabrera, Rosemary Hannon, Ashley Trottier, Aura Fischbeck, and the vîv dance collective. Sam taught creative dance to over 300 children per year with the San Francisco Arts Education Project and Luna Dance Institute, where she continues to help facilitate professional development workshops today. She teaches adult and professional dancers Modern dance and biomechanics as a certified Axis Syllabus teacher. Sam loves to dance in the studio, on the stage, in the club, and in her kitchen…. She values the expression, freedom, and play that dance offers and always pushes for arts awareness and opportunity for all.
