Natalie Desch to Present at NDEO

Natalie Desch, Assistant Professor (School of Dance), has been invited to present her movement session, What's In Your Bag: Creative Content Exploration, at the National Dance Education Organization's national conference in Seattle, Washington, September 29-October 1.

Session Description:
The ”things”—the objects, artifacts, or possessions we carry around in our daily lives—hold some kind of importance or meaning to us and may additionally have some historical relationship to us. (Think about the keys you put in your bag every day and their significance to you.) These objects are an extension of who each of us is, and therefore the values we hold. This creative movement session aims to use the extensions of our lives, (i.e. a single, simple possession) to bring about conversation, camaraderie, and eventually artistic collaboration within a small community. This session aims to bring people together in a safe space to meet, talk about aspects of themselves, explore commonalities and differences, and work together to make art. This exploration finds its roots in historical philosophies of Dadaist art, namely concepts of “found objects,” assemblage, and collage.
