In alignment with the University of Utah’s research-intensive mission, the School of Dance values research as fundamental to student learning and to the bridging of academia to the professional world. The School of Dance is committed to supporting the evolution and advancement of the dance professions through generating new knowledge, presenting both creative and scholarly research in prestigious national and international venues, impacting the field in our community and beyond. 

What does our dance research look like?

  • Physically performing new and historic dance works.

  • Generating and presenting new and innovative choreographic and creative works.

  • Restaging/Reconstructing historic repertory responsibly and thoughtfully with an eye toward critical analysis.

  • Producing and screening/exhibiting new dance-related media and technology.

  • Developing scholarly work disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and presentations for professional entities.

  • Designing and implementing community based participatory projects.
