School of Dance Senior Invited to YAGP Final

Congratulations to Ballet Program Major, Nell Josephine, who has been invited to show work at the Youth America Grand Prix New York City Final this April. Her piece, entitled “Apology Not Accepted” will be performed by dancers Abby Inglett, Genevieve Basu, Madison Lindgren, Kyra Shimogori, and Jilli Snow.

“The journey for Apology Not Accepted started when I asked my dancers what they felt held them back from being their best selves. We often apologize for not being who others want us to be and forget what’s most important—making ourselves happy. This piece is to remind us that we shouldn’t be sorry for who we are and we shouldn’t accept empty apologies from those who feel sorry for us. Thank you to all my School of Dance faculty and especially the Chair, Luc Vanier, for believing in me and making this possible. It was humbling to be invited to bring my choreography to New York, which will be representing the University of Utah. More so being able to give my dancers the chance to perform in an iconic city and present them with an opportunity to grow.”
