Visiting Assistant Professor, Dance

The University of Utah School of Dance invites applicants for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin July 1, 2025. The position is for one year with the possibility of extension to a second year.

The School of Dance is expanding its renowned Screendance program to embrace a range of digital and emerging technologies that relate to dance performance; such technologies may include artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), interactivity, motion capture/tracking, projection mapping, among others. The ideal candidate for this visiting position will have significant experience incorporating digital and emerging technologies into dance, choreographic practices, and filmmaking. We seek a dance-based teaching artist currently contributing to the field who can teach, research, and think interdisciplinarily. The candidate will maintain our partnership with the Department of Film & Media Arts by overseeing the Screendance graduate certificate, thus prior knowledge of creative video and film production in relation to dance is essential.

The anticipated teaching load for this position is three courses per semester and may be negotiated based on the interests and strengths of the candidate. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and to arts practices as creative research. In the School of Dance, the definition of research is broad and may include a range of approaches and modes of dissemination. We are seeking candidates whose research in emerging technologies in relation to dance suggests possibilities for collaborating with various constituents on campus, in the community, and across the field.
