Professor Melissa Bobick’s Choreography Performed at 2024 Women in Dance Leadership Conference

Professor Bobick and the cast of School of Dance Students ready to perform at the Women in Dance Leadership Conference

Professor Melissa Bobick’s original choreographic work “BLiNK” was recently performed at the 2024 Women in Dance Leadership Conference in Los Angeles, California. The work premiered in 2023 in the School of Dance concert titled “Era".”

Bobick said the following about this presentation of her choreography:

My original choreographic work, BLiNK, was selected to be performed at the 2024 Women in Dance Leadership Conference. This international, high-profile conference was held in Los Angeles, CA on October 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2024. With generous funding from the College of Fine Arts and the School of Dance, I was able to travel with ten student dancers from the University of Utah to Los Angeles, to attend the conference. The conference was held at the Biltmore Los Angeles, Stomping Ground LA, and the Aratani Theatre at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center.

According to their vision statement, “Women in Dance aims to provide opportunities in accessing broader and more visible platforms, expanding the voices of artists/scholars, and strengthening the capacity and vibrancy of women in dance making and dance related fields.” The organization holds a biennial international conference to present a variety of dance scholarship created by females. This year, the conference received over 160 submissions, and I am honored that my work was chosen to be presented. The opportunity to have my work shown at a conference of this caliber is rare, and I am particularly excited that students from the University of Utah have been afforded this unique opportunity.
