Professor Joselli Deans and Student Kiya Green honored at BFSA Awards

The School of Dance was well represented at the U’s 2024 BFSA (Black Faculty & Student Association) awards.

Professor Joselli Deans, Ph.D., was honored with the Malcolm X Award of Social Justice. This award is “for those individuals who have fought for justice in terms of the distribution of equal access, opportunities, and privileges within our campus and greater community. Whose body or academic work (e.g. articles, books, creative works) and life promote or exemplify the area of social justice in modern life.”

Modern Dance BFA student Kiya Green won the BFSA Community History Internship, where she studied Black representation in the School of Dance with advisors Shauvanna Munster (History) and Rachel Ernst (Marriott Library Special Collections).
