The Eighth Annual Salt Dance Fest Explores Diverse Perspectives and Approaches

We spoke with Ballet Alum, Samantha Harmon about her experience at the U and life after graduation.

A group of Ballet students from the Dance Studies Working Group attended the San Francisco Ballet Unbound Symposium. Sydney Joy, a Ballet Major, wrote about her experience.

School of Dance faculty members Daniel Clifton and Michael Wall are part of the Salt Lake Electric Ensemble, a collective of musicians whose body of work includes new recordings and performances of music from essential composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, along with original compositions and improvisations.

Modern Dance grad student, Alexandra Barbier will present her latest work, entitled “Work Everlasting” this Sunday, April 22nd at 2 pm and 7:30pm, in MCD Studio 240. Barbier received funding form the BW Bastian Foundation to complete this project. Nicholas Daulton sat down with her to discuss her process for her work.

Congratulations to Ballet Program Major, Nell Josephine, who has been invited to show work at the Youth America Grand Prix New York City Final this April.

As part of a two-week residency, Matthew Neenan – former Pennsylvania Ballet dancer and co-founder of BalletX – has created a new work for the annual performance, combining the talent of both divisions of the School of Dance.

On March 16 and 17, the School of Dance will come together as modern and ballet dancers for a night of celebration. The Gala performance, which will take place at Kingsbury Hall, will feature new creations and traditional works, including a world premier by Michele Wiles.

This year’s Gala Concert will bring together amazing talents from the School of Dance ballet and modern dance programs as well as artists from the U’s School of Music, March 16th and 17th at 7:30pm.
